Hi all. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to Gundam, and there are way too many things I don't know about finishings and paint jobs.

Anyways, I just found some time to start building an old non-grade Strike Freedom Gundam, and I'm concerned with photo-degradation (a.k.a. "yellowing") of the plastic due to sunlight and fluorescent light exposure.

My question is, is painting up the figure the only way to protect it from UV, or can I just spray a layer of flat coat on it?

Does the Gunze Sangyo - Mr.Hobby Color - Solvent-based Arcylic Spraycan - No.30 Flat Clear (Flat) that XL-shop sells have UV protection?

I've heard of Krylon UV protectant spray, but I'm not sure if that's safe to use on plastic.

My main concern here is UV protection and sticker protection, since I'm quite satisfied with the quality of the plastic for the Strike Freedom.

A thousand thanks for any advice! :salute: :salute: :salute:

Mr.Hobby Color - Solvent-based Arcylic Spraycan - Super Clear do have a "UV Cut" for UV protection use..
But I'm not sure about Flat coat.
To me, if really want to protect the model kit from the UV...
just dun display it near the window & direct under the spot light...
I really dun think that the UV protection spray can really do 100% help on the UV protection. :D

BTW, xl-shop din sell the spray can, U need to find it some where else.

Thanks for replying, Erix!

I guess I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to UV, after seeing some very badly yellowed figures on the Net, after being stored for over twenty years.

I guess you're right; I should just keep my figures away from direct sunlight and it should be okay.

BTW, if you don't mind, can you tell me if there is anywhere else I can buy flat coat since XL-shop doesn't sell it? I still need it to seal in the decals and stickers for my Strike Freedom.

Thanks again! :salute: :salute: :salute:

Thanks for the great info, SRUTHY!

Er, actually the Gundam I'm working on is an old MG Strike Freedom, not the Exia Repair, so there are no clear parts for me to paint. Still, the info is very valuable for later use.

Thanks!

If you're able to go down to KL, try go to Time Square, 7th floor. There's a toy shop next to XL-Shop Time Square branch that sells it. They have it in limited quantity, but they do re-stock it regularly. Can't remember how much it costs, but it's definitely more than RM 20.

Thanks so much for the directions, rennyd!

If I may push my luck just a little more, is there any shop you know that is near Midvalley, since I go there a lot more often than Time Square?

Pai seh... :pai seh: :pai seh: :pai seh:

Sorry SKYWARP, I don't know any hobby shop near Mid Valley, so I can't help you on that.

No problem, rennyd! I appreciate your help very much. Well, I guess I'll just have to go to Time Square then.

Thanks again!
